1. The Bible says God is the owner of all things. Our material possessions are gifts from God.

3. The Bible says the love of money (greed) is a root of all kinds of evil.
１０お金を愛することは、あらゆる悪の根源です。 中にはお金を愛するあまり、信仰を捨て、神様から離れてしまった人もいます。 おかげで、そんな人はわが身を刺し通す、激しい悲しみに襲われるのです。 1 Timothy 6:10
This does not mean that rich people are evil. (Only those who have getting rich as their # 1 goal in life)
4. Jesus said we cannot serve two masters. Either we will serve money or we will serve God. Luke 16:13) We have to make a choice about which one we will serve.
２４ だれも、神とお金の両方に仕えることはできません。 必ず、どちらか一方を憎んで、他方を愛するからです。 Matthew 6:24

5. How does the Bible say we should we feel about money?
The Bible says we should not put our hope in wealth, but we should put our hope in God. God is eternal. Money is temporary.
１７金持ちには、高慢にならないように、そして、すぐになくなるお金に望みをかけないように教えなさい。 また、必要なものをいっさい備えて、私たちの人生を楽しませてくださる生ける神様を誇りとし、この方だけを信頼するように忠告しなさい。

6. The Bible also commands us to “do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share”.

7. Who should we share our money with?
The Bible says we should give our money to other people and to God.
Who are the other people we should give our money to?
8. The Bible says we should give everyone what we owe them.
７支払うべきものは、だれにでも支払いなさい。 税金や輸入税をすすんで納め、上に立つ人々に従い、敬うべき人を敬い、重んずべき人を重んじなさい。
Romans 13:7
If we owe taxes, we should pay our taxes. If we owe money to the bank, we should pay the bank. If we owe money to the store, we should pay the store. If we owe money to a friend, we should pay our friend.
(This verse also says we should pay respect and honor to those who are deserving of it.)
The Bible also warns us not to have debts.
８借りがあれば、全部返しなさい。 ただし、他の人を愛するという「借り」だけは別です。 その「借り」だけは、いつまでも返し続けなさい。 というのは、人を愛することは、神様のすべてのおきて、すべての要求にかなうことだからです。
Romans 13:8
The only debt God wants us to have is the debt to love one another. This is a debt that can never fully be paid.
9. The Bible also says we should give money to the poor.
１１貧しい人はいつでもいるから、この戒めはどうしても必要です。 くどいようですが、貧しい人には進んで貸しなさい。 Deuteronomy 15:11

The Bible says when we are generous, we will be blessed generously.

10.The Bible says we should not boast or brag about how much

What does the Bible say about our gifts to God?
12.First, God only wants us to give to him because we want to give, not because we feel like we have to give.

７いくらささげたらよいかは、各自が決めるべきです。 自分はこれだけささげようと思っている人に、もっとたくさんささげるように強制してはいけません。 神様にとっては、喜んで与えるかどうかが大事なのです。 2 Corinthians 9:7
Remember that everything belongs to God, anyway. He doesn’t need our gifts! He wants us to give as an expression of our love for Him.
13.The Bible says our gifts should be in proportion to our income. (A rich person should give more than a poor person.)
１７神様の祝福に応じて、ささげられるだけささげるのです。
Deuteronomy 16:17
14.What should this proportion be? Again, it is up to each person to decide. The Biblical standard is a tithe (10%). The Bible promises that God will bless us if we faithfully give a tithe.
１０収入の十分の一をすべて倉に携えて来い。 そうすれば、神殿には食べ物が十分あるようになる。 そうすれば、わたしは天の窓を開いて、すばらしい祝福をあふれるばかりに注ごう。 試してみよ。 わたしに、そのことを証明させてほしい。

15.Finally, it is important to remember that our gifts to God are meaningless unless they are given with a pure heart and the right motivation. God is more interested in our hearts than
our gifts. Our daily lives and our willingness to live God’s way are the true test of our love for God.

The Sneaky Snake
1. The devil disguised himself as a serpent. The devil is also referred to as a
serpent in the New Testament. The serpent asked the woman about God’s words. Even today, the devil tries to get us to question or doubt God’s words in the Bible. He wants to separate us from God.
さて、神様が造ったものの中で、蛇が一番ずる賢い動物でした。蛇は女に、ことば巧みに話をもちかけました。「ほんとうにそのとおりなんですかねえ？いえね、ほかでもない、園の果物はどれも食べちゃいけないって話ですよ。なんでも神様は、これっぽっちも食べちゃいけないと言ったっていうじゃないですか。」 Genesis 3:1
９こうして、この巨大な竜、悪魔とかサタンとか呼ばれ、全世界をだまし続けてきた、古い大蛇は、手下もろとも、地上に投げ落とされてしまったのです。
Revelation 12:9
２彼は、悪魔とかサタンとか呼ばれている、あの古い蛇である竜をつかま
え、鎖で縛って、千年の間、 Revelation 20:2
１５ある種が落ちた、踏み固められたあぜ道とは、神のことばを聞いても心を堅く閉ざした人のことです。 すぐにサタンがやって来て、そのことばを忘れさせてしまうのです。

2. The woman told the serpent that God said they could eat fruit from any of
the trees in the garden except for the tree in the middle of the garden. Then, she said that they weren’t even supposed to touch the tree. God never said they couldn’t touch the tree, He only said not to eat from the tree.
２３「そんなことないわ。食べるのはちっともかまわないのよ。ただね、園の中央にある木の実だけは、食べちゃいけないの。そればかりか、さわってもいけないんですって。さもないと、死んでしまうって、神様がおっしゃったわ。」 Genesis 3:2-3
１６１７ただし、一つだけきびしい注意がありました。「園の果物はどれでも食べてかまわない。だが『良心の木』の実だけは絶対にいけない。それを食べると、正しいこととまちがったこと、よいことと悪いことの区別について、自分勝手な判断を下すようになるからだ。そんなことになったら、必ず死ぬ。 Genesis 2:16-17
The Bible says we should not add or take away from God’s words.
１８わたしは、この書物を読むすべての人に、厳かに宣言します。ここに書かれていることに、一語でも書き加える人がいれば、神様はその人に、この書物にあるとおりの災いを下されます。１９また反対に、この預言の書物から一語でも取り除く人がいれば、神様はその人から、いのちの木の実を食べる権利ばかりか、きよい都に入る権利をも取り上げるでしょう。 Revelation 22:18-19
The Bible says sin leads to death. This death may or may not be a physical death. It could be a spiritual death. Sin is any thought or act that contradicts God’s word.
２３罪の支払う報酬は死です。しかし、神様が、ただで下さる贈り物は、私たちの主キリスト・イエスによる永遠のいのちです。 Romans 6:23
So, the serpent was successful! He got Eve to doubt God’s words, distort God’s words, and disobey God’s words. There were many trees for Eve to eat from. Instead, she thought about what she couldn’t have, the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Then, she told the serpent that God didn’t even want her to touch the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. This was simply not true! Eve made God more restrictive than He really was. She forgot that God only wanted the best for her. Instead, she focused on what she couldn’t have.
3. The serpent told Eve she wouldn’t die if she ate the fruit. He told her that
if she ate the fruit, she would be like God and she would know the
difference between good and evil.
４「へえーっ、でも、そいつは嘘っぱちですぜ。死ぬだなんて、でたらめもいいところだ。 ５神様も意地が悪いね。その実を食べたら、善と悪の見わけがつき、神様のようになっちまうもんだから、脅しをかけるなんてさ。」 Genesis 3:4-5
The sepent made sin look appealing!
4. Eve was attracted to the fruit because it offered 3 things:
1) nourishment
2) beauty
3) wisdom
６言われてみれば、そう思えないこともありません。それに、その実はとてもきれいで、おいしそうなのです。「あれを食べたら、何でもよくわかるようになるんだわ。」そう思いながら見ていると、もう矢も盾もたまらなくなり、とうとう実をもいで、食べてしまいました。 ちょうどそばにいたアダムにも分けてやり、いっしょに食べたのです。
Genesis 3:6
Eve should have looked to God to provide these things for her. God had
already given her and Adam everything they needed.
Eve ate the fruit. Then, she gave some to Adam and he ate it, too.
5. As soon as they ate the fruit, Adam and Eve realized they were naked.
So, they made some clothes out of fig leaves.
７はっと気がついたら、二人とも裸ではありませんか。急に恥ずかしくてたまらなくなりました。何とかしなければなりません。間に合わせに、いちじくの葉をつなぎ合わせ、腰の回りをおおいました。 Genesis 3:7
This is symbolic. Adam and Eve did their best to cover their sin. The
Bible says our sins can only be covered through the sacrifice of Jesus.
２９ 翌日のことです。 ヨハネは、イエスが来られるのを見て、言いました。 「ご覧なさい！ この方こそ、世の人々の罪を取り除く神の小羊だ。
John 1:29
6. Adam and Eve heard God walking in the garden. They knew they had
sinned, so they hid from God. God called for Adam.
８その日の夕方のことです。神様が園の中を歩いておられる気配がしたので、二人はあわてて木陰に隠れました。 ９神様の呼ぶ声が聞こえます。 「アダム、なぜ隠れるのだ。」
Genesis 3:8-9
The Bible says one day God will judge the earth and people will hide
because they know they cannot stand against His judgment.
１５地上の王、指導者、金持ち、将軍、身分の高い人も低い人も、奴隷も自由人も、人々はこぞって、ほら穴や山の岩陰に身を隠し、１６山々に向かって、大声で叫びました。「私たちの上に倒れかかれ！王座にざしておられる方の顔から、小羊の怒りから、私たちを隠してくれ。 １７神様と小羊の怒りの日がついに来たのだ。 だれがそれに耐えられよう。」

7. Adam told God that he was afraid because he was naked, so he hid. God
asked Adam who told him that he was naked. God asked Adam if he had
eaten from the forbidden tree.
１０ 「神様がおいでになるのに裸だったからです。 こんな姿はお見せできません。」
１１「なにっ、裸だということを、いったいだれが教えた？さては、あれほど食べるなと言ったのに、あの木の実を食べたのだな。」 Genesis 3:10-11
8. Adam didn’t take responsibility for his actions. He blamed God and Eve!
１２ 「は、はい。 で、でも、神様が下さった女がくれたもんで、つい……。」
Genesis 3:12
9. God asked Eve about what she had done. Eve didn’t take responsibility
for her actions either. She blamed it all on the serpent!
１３ そこで神様は女に尋ねました。 「いったいどうして、こんなことをしたのだね。」
「蛇、蛇がいけないのです。 私はただ、だまされただけです。」
Genesis 3:13
10. God cursed the serpent and told him that there would always be
enmity between snakes and people. This is symbolic of the struggle between God and Satan. Then, God said Eve’s offspring would crush the serpent’s head (Satan). This happened when Jesus died for our sins and rose again proving that He was the Savior.
１４それを聞いて、神様は蛇に言い渡しました。「悪いやつめ、そんなことをした罰だ。いいか、あらゆる家畜、野生の動物の中で、おまえだけがのろわれるのだ。生きている間ちりの中をはいつくばうがいい。１５以後おまえと女はかたき同士、おまえの子孫と女の子孫も同じだ。女はおまえを恐れるだろう。 子孫同士も、互いに相手をこわがるようになる。おまえは彼のかかとにかみついて傷を負わせるが、結局は彼に頭を踏み砕かれてしまうのだ。」

11. God told the woman three things:
1)she would have pains in childbearing
2)she would have desire for her husband
3)her husband would rule over her.
１６次は女の番です。「おまえは苦しみ抜いて子供を産む。それでもなお、ひたすら夫の愛を求め、彼についていく。」 Genesis 3:16
12. Because Adam listened to Eve, God told him that the ground would be
cursed and that he would only get food through hard work.
１７ 最後はアダムです。 「あれほど食べてはいけないと言ったのに、おまえは食べた。 わたしよりも、妻の言うことを聞いたのだ。 そのため土地はのろわれる。 生きるためには、一生あくせく働かなければならない。１８土地には、いばらとあざみが生え、おまえは野草を食べる。１９死ぬまで汗水流して土地を耕し、働いて糧を得なければならない。 そしてついに死に、また土に帰る。土から造られたのだから、また土に帰る。」 Genesis 3:17-19
13. Adam named his wife Eve.
２０アダムは妻をエバ〔「いのちを与える者」の意〕と呼びました。彼女は全人類の母となるからです。 Genesis 3:20
14. God made clothes for Adam and Eve out of animal skin. (Animal skin
makes a better garment than fig leaves!) This is the first time blood was shed to cover sin. In the Old Testament, Jewish priests would make sacrifices day after day for their own sins and for the people’s sins. Jesus’ sacrifice was the final and ultimate sacrifice for sin.

15. God banished Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden, the tree of life,
and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. So, sin separated Adam and Eve and their offspring from God’s gift of eternal life. The Bible says the only way we can gain access to eternal life is through God’s Son, Jesus.

13. Adam named his wife Eve.

14. God made clothes for Adam and Eve out of animal skin. (Animal skin
makes a better garment than fig leaves!) This is the first time blood was shed to cover sin. In the Old Testament, Jewish priests would make sacrifices day after day for their own sins and for the people’s sins. Jesus’ sacrifice was the final and ultimate sacrifice for sin.

and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. So, sin separated Adam and Eve and their offspring from God’s gift of eternal life. The Bible says the only way we can gain access to eternal life is through God’s Son, Jesus.

Adam and Eve
Genesis 2:4-25
1. Genesis 2:4-6 gives us more information about the earth at the
time of Creation. Before there was ever any rain, shrubs,
plants, or people, streams of water came up from the ground.
Many people believe these streams of water were the way God
provided moisture until the Flood.
４ ところで、神様が全世界を造った時のいきさつは、次のとおりです。
5 初めのうち、地には穀物はおろか、一本の植物さえ生えていませんでした。
神様が雨を降らせなかったからです。それに、土地を耕す人もいませんでした。
６しかし、地のあちこちから泉がわき出て、全地を潤していました。
2. God formed Adam from the dust of the ground and personally
breathed into Adam’s nose to give him life. God only had to speak to create everything else in Creation, but He gave special attention to creating a man. (Genesis 2:7)
７やがて神様が人間を造る時がきました。まず、地のちりで体を造り上げ、それにいのちの
息を吹き込んだのです。 そこで人は、生きた人格をもつ者となりました。
3. God had a garden in Eden. He put Adam there. God made all
kinds of trees grow—trees that were pleasing to the eye and trees that were good for food. In the middle of the garden, there were 2 special trees: the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. (Genesis 2:8-9)
８それから神様は、東の方のエデンに園をつくり、そこに人を住まわせました。 ９園には、あらゆる種類の美しい木が植えられています。どれもこれも、おいしい実をつける木ばかりです。園の中央には、「いのちの木」と、善悪を判断する力のつく「良心の木」とがありました。
4. The next 5 verses give some information about the geography
around the Garden of Eden. From this information, we know that the Garden of Eden was in present-day Iraq. (Two of these rivers still have their original names: The Euphrates River and The Tigris River.) God put Adam in the garden to work it and take care of it. (Genesis 2:10-15)
１０さて、エデンの地からは一つの川が流れ出て園を潤し、それはやがて四つの流れに分かれるのでした。１１１２その一つピション川は、ハビラ地方全域を蛇行していました。 その地方からは、純度の高い金と美しいブドラフ（香りのよい樹脂を出す木）や、しまめのうが採れます。１３第二の川はギホンと呼ばれ、クシュの全域を流れる川です。 １４第三がティグリス川で、アシュルの町の東側を流れていました。そして第四がユーフラテス川です。１５神様は、人をエデンの園の番人にし、その管理を任せました。
5. God told Adam that he could eat from any of the trees in the
garden, except for the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. (We’ll learn more about this next month!) (Genesis 2:16-17)

6. God knew it wasn’t good for Adam to be alone. So, God
wanted to find a “suitable helper” for Adam. (Genesis 2:18)

彼を助ける者がいなくては。」
7. God brought all of the animals and birds to Adam. He asked
Adam to name each animal. So, Adam gave names to all the
animals, but none of the animals were suitable helpers for
Adam. (Genesis 2:19-20)
１９２０そこで、土からあらゆる種類の動物と鳥を造り、アダムのところへ連れて来て、名前をつけさせました。それぞれみな、アダムがつけたとおりの名前をもらいましたが、アダムの助けになるようなものは見あたりません。
8. God put Adam in a deep sleep. While Adam was sleeping,
God took one of Adam’s ribs out of his body and then closed up the place with flesh. (Most men and women have 12 pairs of ribs, but it’s not uncommon for someone to be born with an extra rib or pair of ribs. No one knows for sure why Adam had a “spare rib”. That’s one question that will have to be answered in Heaven!) (Genesis 2:21)

9. God made a woman out of Adam’s rib. God gave special
attention to creating women, too! It is symbolic that Eve was created from Adam’s rib. If Eve had been created from Adam’s head, she would be over Adam. If Eve had been created from Adam’s feet, she would be under Adam. Eve was created from Adam’s ribs, so she is at Adam’s side, close to his heart. God brought the woman to the man. (Genesis 2:22)
２２その骨で女を造り、彼のところへ連れて来ました。
10. Adam was excited to have Eve. Eve was made from Adam’s
bones and flesh. Eve was just what Adam needed! Adam
decided to call the woman “woman” because she was taken
out of man. (Genesis 2:23)

11. God’s plan for marriage is for men to leave their parents and
unite with their wives. Then, the husband and wife becomes “one flesh” (physically and spiritually). (Genesis 2:24)

12. Everything was perfect in the Garden of Eden! Adam and Eve
were completely comfortable with each other. (Genesis 2:25)

14. Jesus used Adam and Eve as a model for marriage. Jesus
encouraged people to stay married instead of getting divorced. (Mark 10:6-9)

Jesus' 1st Temptation
２イエスはそこで、まる四十日間、何一つ口にされなかったので、空腹を覚えられました。
Matthew 4:2.
1. Why did Jesus fast?
In Bible times and today, some people fast for spiritual reasons. Fasting helps them completely focus on God and His will. Sometimes people fast when they need to make an important decision.
Different people fast in different ways. Usually, a fast will only last a few days and the person will drink water, but not eat any food. Some people fast longer and may drink juices. Some people may fast from something besides food, such as television or newspapers.
The Bible says we should not make it public that we are fasting. It is a private matter between a person and God.
１６次に、断食についてですが、神のことだけに心を集中したくて断食をする時は、偽善者たちのような、人目につくやり方は避けなさい。彼らは、やつれた顔をわざと見せつけ、同情を買おうとします。よく言っておきますが、そういう人たちは、もうそれで、賞賛を受けてしまったのです。１７断食をする時は、むしろ晴着をまといなさい。１８そうすれば、だれもあなたが断食をしているとは気づかないでしょう。しかし、あなたの父は、どんなことでもご存じです。そして、報いてくださるのです。

2. Why did Jesus fast for 40 days and nights?
In the Bible, the number “40” is symbolic for redemption. Redemption is the act of bringing people back into a right relationship with God.
It rained for 40 days and nights when Noah was in the ark.
４あと一週間たつと、雨が降り始め、四十日のあいだ昼も夜も降り続く。 わたしが造った動物と鳥と爬虫類はみな死に絶えるだろう。」
５ノアは、何もかも命じられたとおりにしました。６洪水が襲ってきた時、彼は六百歳でした。７水から逃れるため、彼は急いで妻と息子夫婦を連れ、船に乗り込みました。８９各種の動物もみないっしょです。食用といけにえ用の動物も、そうでない動物も、それから鳥も爬虫類もです。みな神様がノアに命じたとおり、雄と雌のつがいで乗り込みました。 １０‐１２一週間後、ノアが生まれて六百年と二か月十七日たった日のことです。どしゃぶりの雨が降り始め、地下水までが勢いよく吹き出したではありませんか。四十日のあいだ昼も夜も、そんな状態が続きました。

Moses spent 40 days with the Lord. During this time, the Lord gave Moses 2 stone tablets that were inscribed with the Ten Commandments.

Deuteronomy 9:9-11
The nation of Israel was tested for 40 years in the Desert.

Jesus stayed on the earth for 40 days after His Resurrection.

Acts 1:3
３その時です、悪魔が誘いかけてきたのは。「どうだい。ひとつ、ここに転がっている石をパンに変えてみたら？そうすりゃあ、あんたが神の子だということも一目瞭然だろうが。」

The 1st Temptation
3. After Jesus fasted, He was hungry. The Devil told Jesus that since He was God’s Son, He should turn some stones into bread.
The Devil wanted Jesus to use His supernatural powers to resist the temptations.
4. How did Jesus answer the Devil?
Jesus quoted Deuteronomy 8:3. This verse says we should humble ourselves and rely on God.

1. Why did Jesus fast?
In Bible times and today, some people fast for spiritual reasons. Fasting helps them completely focus on God and His will. Sometimes people fast when they need to make an important decision.
Different people fast in different ways. Usually, a fast will only last a few days and the person will drink water, but not eat any food. Some people fast longer and may drink juices. Some people may fast from something besides food, such as television or newspapers.
The Bible says we should not make it public that we are fasting. It is a private matter between a person and God.

2. Why did Jesus fast for 40 days and nights?
In the Bible, the number “40” is symbolic for redemption. Redemption is the act of bringing people back into a right relationship with God.
It rained for 40 days and nights when Noah was in the ark.

C. This is an example of how God’s Word can be twisted and used the wrong way.
How can you know the right way to interpret God’s Word?
The best way is to look at the verses “in context” (look at the “big picture” by looking at the surrounding verses).
In this example, Psalm 91 was written for people who are in trouble and are trusting God to help them. It’s not a Psalm about putting yourself in trouble and asking God to get you out of it.
So, the Devil was telling Jesus to put himself in trouble and then ask God to get Him out of it.

F. How did the Israelites “test the Lord”?
1. THEY DIDN’T OBEY GOD’S COMMANDS:
The Israelites were given very specific instructions about the
manna:
The Israelites were supposed to only gather enough manna for 1 day each day, except for the 6th day. On the 6th day, the Israelites were supposed to gather enough for 2 days. This is because they were supposed to rest on the 7th day (the Sabbath Day). Some of the people even went out to look for manna on the 7th day.

2. THEY ASKED FOR MORE WHEN THEY ALREADY

God sent enough manna for each day, but the Israelites wanted more. They didn’t trust God to provide for them every day. They tried to gather extra manna, but it always spoiled. The only exception was on the 6th day. The extra manna gathered on the 6th day always stayed fresh until the Sabbath Day.
２０ところが中には、やはり言うことを聞かない者もいて、明くる朝まで残しておくのでした。けれどもそういうパンは朝になると、虫がついて、ひどいにおいがしています。 モーセは、言いつけを守らない者をしかりつけました。

3. THEY WEREN’T THANKFUL FOR WHAT GOD HAD GIVEN THEM:
The Bible says the Israelites “grumbled” against Moses.
２４人々はモーセに不平を言いました。「何とかしてくれ。のどが渇いて死にそうだ。 このままじゃ、いよいよ最期だな。」 Exodus 15:24

This means they weren’t thankful for the way the Lord took care of them.
4. THEY FORGOT WHAT GOD HAD ALREADY DONE FOR THEM:
The Lord had already protected the Israelites from wars and famines (Genesis). Then, when they were held captive in Egypt, the Lord sent plagues until Pharaoh finally decided to let them go free. (Exodus 7-12) When the Israelites left Egypt, the Lord led them by a cloud at night and fire during the day.

When Pharaoh changed his mind and decided to recapture the Israelites, the Lord parted the Red Sea so they could escape.

So, the Israelites had lots of reasons to trust the Lord, but they forgot the past and worried about the future.
5. THEY DIDN’T WAIT ON GOD’S PLAN:
God had a plan for the Israelites. He had already promised them the Savior would come from their nation.
３わたしは、おまえを祝福する者を祝福し、おまえをのろう者をのろう。 おまえによって、全世界が祝福されるのだ。」 Genesis 12:3
So, they should have known that God would take care of them. Instead, time after time, they forgot about God and worshipped idols. (Exodus 32 is one example. The made a golden calf and worshipped it instead of the Lord.) Every time, God forgave them and took care of them, but they had to pay for their actions.
So, what can we learn from this lesson?
We shouldn’t test the Lord! We shouldn’t put ourselves in a dangerous situation and expect the Lord to get us out of it.
We should obey God’s commands!
We shouldn’t be greedy!
We should be thankful for what God gives us!
We should remember what God has already done for us!
We should be patient and wait on God to work out His plan in our lives! This is the hardest one, but the Bible promises us that God has a good plan for our lives.

ministry. The Bible says Jesus was tempted in every way, yet He did not sin.

Jesus' Baptism
1. Why did Jesus come to see John?
１３そのころイエスは、ガリラヤからヨルダン川へ来て、ヨハネからバプテスマ（洗礼）を受けようとなさいました。 (Matthew 3:13)
2. Why did John try to change Jesus’ mind?
１４ところが、ヨハネはそうさせまいとして言いました。 「とんでもない。 私こそ、あなた様からバプテスマを受けなければなりませんのに。」
(Matthew 3:14)
3. What did Jesus tell John?
１５しかしイエスが、「今はそうさせてもらいたい。なすべきことは、すべてしなければならないのですから」とお答えになり、ヨハネからバプテスマをお受けになりました。 (Matthew 3:15)
Jesus began His public ministry shortly after He was baptized.
4. What did Jesus see after He came up out of the water?

Jesus was baptized for 4 reasons:
1. Jesus was baptized “to do all that God requires” or “to fulfill all righteousness”
When Jesus was baptized, He was showing us that He was fully devoted to God.
At the same time, God showed His approval of Jesus by sending the Holy Spirit and saying He was pleased with His Son. (Matthew 3:16-17)
2. Jesus was baptized so John could publicly announce that Jesus was the Messiah.
３２ヨハネはさらに続けました。「確かに、聖霊様が鳩のように天から下り、この方の上にとどまられるのを見た。３３初めは私も、この方がその方だとはわからなかった。 だが、バプテスマを授けさせるために私を遣わす時、神様はこう言われたのだ。『もし、聖霊がだれかに下り、その上にとどまるのを見たら、その方こそ、あなたの捜し求める方、聖霊のバプテスマをお授けになる方だ。』３４そのとおりのことが、この方に起こった。しかと、この目で見たのだ。この方は神の子にまちがいない。」イエス、弟子を集める (John 1:32-34)
3. Jesus was baptized so He could identify with our sin and forgiveness. We are baptized as a symbol of our repentance and forgiveness from sin. Jesus didn’t need repentance and forgiveness because He never sinned. He became our payment for sin when He died on the cross.
２２キリスト様は一度も、罪を犯したり、うそをついたりなさいませんでした。
(1 Peter 2:22)

4. Jesus was baptized to be an example for His followers. If Jesus was baptized, His followers should be baptized, too.
The Trinity
1. The Trinity is an important part of the Bible. The Trinity means there is 1 God, but He exists in 3 people: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
2. The Trinity was evident during the creation of the world.

John the Baptist and the Jewish Leaders
A. Who were the Pharisees and the Sadducees?
They were the 2 main groups of Jewish leaders.
The Pharisees were very legalistic. (They kept every little rule and they made sure everyone else did, too!)
The Sadducees were more relaxed about rules.
The Pharisees and Sadducees disagreed about many things in the Old Testament (the resurrection of the dead, angels and evil spirits).
B. What did John say to the Pharisees and the Sadducees?
John told them 7 things:
1. John called the Pharisees and Sadducees snakes. (John didn’t like them very much!) He asked them about trying to escape God’s punishment.
７ところが、パリサイ人（特におきてを守ることに熱心なユダヤ教の一派）やサドカイ人（神殿を牛耳っていた祭司階級。ユダヤ教の主流派）が大ぜい、バプテスマを受けに来たのを見て、ヨハネは彼らをきびしくしかりつけました。 「まむしの子らめっ！だれがおまえらに、もうすぐ来る神のさばきから逃れられると言ったのか。 (Matthew 3:7)
The Bible says one day God will judge every person for their sins.
２７人間には、一度だけ死んで、その後さばきを受けることが定められているように、 (Hebrews 9:27)
If you receive the gift of salvation, you will not be punished.
２３罪の支払う報酬は死です。しかし、神様が、ただで下さる贈り物は、私たちの主キリスト・イエスによる永遠のいのちです。 (Romans 6:23)
If you reject the gift of salvation, you will be punished.
８その時、神様には目もくれなかった者や、主イエス・キリストによる神様の救いの計画を拒んだ者には、恐るべきさばきが下ります。９彼らは、永遠の地獄で刑罰を受け、主の前から追放されて、二度と栄光に輝く主の力を見ることはないのです。 (2 Thessalonians 1:8-9)
2. John told the Pharisees and the Sadducees to “do those things that show you have turned from your sins”.
８バプテスマを受ける前に、悔い改めにふさわしい行ないをせよ。
(Matthew 3:8)
The Bible says if a person has truly repented, they will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
３８ペテロは答えました。「一人一人が、罪の生活から足を洗って神様に立ち返りなさい。そして、罪を赦していただくために、イエス・キリストの名によってバプテスマ（洗礼）を受けなさい。そうすれば、聖霊様という贈り物をいただけます。 (Acts 2:38)
The gift of the Holy Spirit is God’s spirit living in a person’s heart. If a person has the gift of the Holy Spirit, they will produce “fruit”: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, humility and self-control.
２２しかし、聖霊様が生活を支配してくださる時、私たちのうちに、次のような実を結んでくださいます。それは、愛、喜び、平安、忍耐、親切、善意、誠実、 ２３柔和、自制です。そこには、ユダヤ教のおきてに反するものは何もありません。 (Galatians 5:22-23)
3. John told them not to think they would be safe because they were descendents of Abraham. (The Jewish people are descendents of Abraham.)
Most of the Jewish leaders didn’t worry about the condition of their heart or the way they lived. They thought they would not be punished for their sins because they were descendents of Abraham.
John told them that their ancestors didn’t matter to God. John told them God could make new descendents out of rocks!
９『自分はユダヤ人だから、アブラハムの子孫だから大丈夫』などとは思ってもみるな。そんなことは何の役にも立たない。神様はこんな石ころからでも、今すぐアブラハムの子孫をお造りになれるのだ。 (Matthew 3:9)
The Jewish leaders were very proud of their ancestors. John wanted them to know that God treats everyone equally.
１１この新しいいのちに生きる者には、国籍、人種、教育、社会的地位の違いなどは、全く問題ではありません。そんなものには何の意味もないのです。大切なのは、キリスト様を、しっかりつかんでいるかどうかです。そして、キリスト様を自分のものにする機会は、だれにも平等に与えられているのです。
(Colossians 3:11)
4. John told them the ax was ready to cut down trees at the
roots. The trees that didn’t produce good fruit would be thrown in the fire.
１０今の今でも、神様はさばきの斧をふり上げ、実のならない木を切り倒そうと待ちかまえておられる。そんな木はすぐにも切り倒され、燃やされるのだ。
(Matthew 3:10)
John was saying it was almost time for God’s wrath. If you weren’t producing good fruit, you would be punished.
２２しかし、聖霊様が生活を支配してくださる時、私たちのうちに、次のような実を結んでくださいます。それは、愛、喜び、平安、忍耐、親切、善意、誠実、 ２３柔和、自制です。そこには、ユダヤ教のおきてに反するものは何もありません。 (Galatians 5:22-23)
5. John said he was baptizing with water, but the Lord
would come and baptize them with the Holy Spirit and
fire. John said the Lord was much greater than he was.
１１私は今、罪を悔い改める者たちに水でバプテスマを授けている。しかし、まもなく、私など比べものにもならない、はるかに偉大な方がおいでになる。 その方のしもべとなる値打さえ、私にはない。その方は、聖霊と火でバプテスマをお授けになる。 (Matthew 3:11)
John’s baptism was a symbol of repentance. John only wanted to baptize people who had shown they had repented.
6. John told them that the Lord had his winnowing shovel
with him and He will thresh out the grain.
１２刈
り入れの時が来たら、麦ともみがらをふるい分け、麦は倉に納め、もみがらは永久に消えない火で焼きすててしまわれる。」イエス、バプテスマを受ける (Matthew 3:12)
John is talking about Judgment Day. The Lord will separate the righteous and the unrighteous on Judgment Day. The righteous will enter heaven. The unrighteous will not.
４０この話では、毒麦がより分けられ、焼かれますが、この世の終わりにも、同じようなことが起こります。４１わたしは御使いを送って、人をそそのかす者や悪人たちをより分け、４２炉に投げ込んで燃やしてしまいます。悪人たちは、そこで泣きわめき、歯ぎしりしてくやしがるのです。４３その時、正しい人たちは、父の御国で太陽のように輝きます。 聞く耳のある人は、よく聞きなさい。
(Matthew 13:40-43)
Note: “Righteous” means right before God. God’s standard is perfection. None of us are perfect and God knows we aren’t perfect. So, God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to pay for our sins. Anyone who believes that Jesus is the Son of God and asks Him for the gift of eternal life will be “righteous” in Judgment Day.
２１２２しかし今や、神様は、天国へ行く別の道を示してくださいました。 その新しい道は、「善人になる」とか、神様のおきてを守ろうと努力するような道ではありません〔とはいっても、この道については、ずっと前から旧約聖書で教えられていたのですから、実際には新しい道とは言えませんが〕。神様は今、「もし私たちが、イエス・キリストを信じきるなら、あなたがたを受け入れ、『罪のない者』と宣言する」と言われます。どんな人間であろうと、私たちはみな、キリストを信じきるという、この方法によって救われるのです。２３そうです。すべての人は罪を犯しました。神の輝かしい標準にはほど遠い存在です。２４けれども、もし私たちがキリスト・イエスを信じきるなら、神様は私たちを「罪のない者」と宣言してくださいます。このキリスト・イエスが、恵みにより、無償で私たちの罪を帳消しにしてくださるからです。２５神様はキリスト・イエスを遣わして、私たちの罪のための刑罰を受けさせ、私たちへの怒りをとどめてくださいました。 神様は、私たちをご自分の怒りから救い出すための手段として、キリスト様の血と私たちの信仰とをお用いになりました。ですから、それまでの時代に罪を犯した者たちを罰せられなかったとしても、神様は完全に公正であられたわけです。 キリスト様が来て人々の罪を取り除く時を、神様は待ち望んでおられたからです。 ２６そして今日でも、神様はこの同じ方法で罪人を受け入れてくださいます。 イエス様が彼らの罪を帳消しにしてくださったからです。しかし、このように、罪を犯した者を赦し、無罪を宣告するのは、神様の公正なやり方に反するのではないでしょうか。いいえ、そんなことはありません。なぜなら、彼らが自分の罪を帳消しにしてくださったイエス様を信じたという事実に基づいて、神様はそうなさるからです。 (Romans 3:21-26)

The gift of the Holy Spirit is God’s spirit living in a person’s heart. If a person has the gift of the Holy Spirit, they will produce “fruit”: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, humility and self-control.

Most of the Jewish leaders didn’t worry about the condition of their heart or the way they lived. They thought they would not be punished for their sins because they were descendents of Abraham.
John told them that their ancestors didn’t matter to God. John told them God could make new descendents out of rocks!

The Jewish leaders were very proud of their ancestors. John wanted them to know that God treats everyone equally.

roots. The trees that didn’t produce good fruit would be thrown in the fire.

John was saying it was almost time for God’s wrath. If you weren’t producing good fruit, you would be punished.

John is talking about Judgment Day. The Lord will separate the righteous and the unrighteous on Judgment Day. The righteous will enter heaven. The unrighteous will not.

Note: “Righteous” means right before God. God’s standard is perfection. None of us are perfect and God knows we aren’t perfect. So, God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to pay for our sins. Anyone who believes that Jesus is the Son of God and asks Him for the gift of eternal life will be “righteous” in Judgment Day.

4. A new believer’s “death” to sin and their old life and “birth” to a new life with Jesus as their Savior.

What Does God Know About Me?
1. The Bible says God searches us and knows us. (Psalm 139:1)

２私の立ち居振る舞いさえご存じです。 遠くからでも、私の内面をすべて読み取られます。

３また、私の進む道を下調べして、どこで休息をとるべきかも教えてくださいます。 常に私の居場所もご存じです。

The Ten Commandments
The Ten Commandments are found in Exodus 20:3-17 and Deuteronomy 5:7-21.

I. You shall have no other Gods before me.
God wants to be #1 in our hearts and in our lives. Jesus said
this was the first and greatest commandment.

II. You shall not make idols of any form.
The Bible says God is a jealous God. He created us and He
wants us to worship Him alone.
This commandment has a warning: It says if you worship an
idol, God will punish 3 or 4 generations of your family. It also
says God will show love to 1000 generations of your family if
you don’t worship idols.
Is it fair to punish children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren
and great-great grandchildren for their ancestor’s mistakes?
Children learn from their parents. If parents worship idols, the
children probably will, too. So, they are really being punished
for their own sins. Sometimes, a person will worship God
even if their parents worship idols. When this happens, the
Bible says God will bless their family for 1000 generations.
The Bible says God is always just. So, we can trust that God
will be fair when He makes His judgments.

III. You shall not misuse God’s name.
This commandment applies to profanity and to making oaths.

IV. Remember the Sabbath Day and keep it holy.
God wants us to set aside one day each week to worship Him and to rest. This principle was set forth during the time of Creation.

V. Honor your father and mother.
This commandment has a promise. It says you will enjoy a long life if you honor your parents.

This honor includes respect, obedience, and care when our parents need care.

VI. You shall not murder.
Life is precious is to God and He wants us to protect it and defend it.
God created people in His own image.
２７ このように、人間は、天地を造った神様に似た者として造られました。
神様はご自分に似せて人間を造り、 男と女とに造ったのです。
(Genesis 1:27)
So, if we murder a person then it is like we are murdering God.
VII. You shall not commit adultery.
Marriage is important to God. He wants us to be faithful to our spouses.
４結婚とその誓約を尊びなさい。純潔を保ちなさい。神様は不品行な者、姦淫する者を、まちがいなく、さばかれるからです。 (Hebrews 13:4)
VIII. You shall not steal.
We shouldn’t take what doesn’t belong to us.
IX. You shall not give false testimony.
We shouldn’t lie.

X. You shall not covet.
God wants us to be content with what He gives us.

One of the best ways to do this is to “Count Your Blessings”!
Finally, Jesus summed up the last 4 commandments with a single command: “Love your neighbor as you love yourself”.

1600 years by 40 different men. These men came from all
walks of life: they were doctors, fishermen, princes,
herdsmen, poets, and laborers.

The chapters are divided into verses. These numbers aren’t divinely inspired. They were added later for our convenience.
5. The Old Testament writers were inspired to prophesy about the coming of the Savior, Jesus Christ. The New Testament writers were biographers and witnesses of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection on earth. Both testaments reveal that Jesus fulfilled every prophecy that was written about Him—even the ones that were written hundreds of years before His birth.
6. The Old Testament has 3 main sections:
History—From Genesis to Esther
Poetry—From Job to Song of Solomon
Prophecy—From Isaiah to Malachi
7. The New Testament has 4 main sections:
The Gospels (“good news”)—From Matthew to John
History—Acts

One reason we can believe this is because there is complete harmony in all the books of the Bible. The Bible was written by 40 different men who lived in different generations. If God didn’t inspire these 40 men, how could they write such a unified book?
9. There is archaeological, historical, and geographical evidence that supports the Bible. Archaeologists have found artifacts and ruins from Biblical cities. The history in the Bible matches the history of the world. The stories in the Bible are about real people who lived on this earth. The maps in the Bible are very similar to the maps we use today. (Some of the names have changed, but the geography is the same.)
10.The prophecies in the Bible have been (or will be) fulfilled with 100% accuracy. Many of these prophecies were about the Savior, but there are prophecies about other events in history. For example, the situation in the Middle East was prophesied in Genesis. The ability of the Bible to see into future supports that the Bible is not an ordinary book. There have been many attempts to destroy or disprove the Bible, but no one has ever been able to do so. Even this is a fulfilled prophecy.

Creation
Creation—Genesis 1:1-2:3
1. The first story in the Bible is the story of Creation.
2. Before creation, the Bible says the earth was formless and the
Spirit of God hovered over deep waters.
１まだ何もない時、神様は天と地をお造りになりました。２地球はまだ形が定まらずやみにおおわれた氷の上を、さらに神様の霊がおおっていました。 (Genesis 1:1-2)
3. The Bible says God created the world and everything in it in an orderly way. On the first 3 days, God did the “forming”. On the next 3 days, God did the “filling”.

Proverbs 22:6 is a popular Bible verse about raising children:

grandchildren. Isaac had 2 sons, Jacob and Esau. Isaac favored
Esau. Isaac’s wife, Rebekah, favored Jacob. After Jacob grew up, he
had 12 sons, but he favored his youngest son, Joseph. This favoritism
caused a lot of trouble for their families, but in the end God worked
things out for good. You can read these stories in the Children’s Bible
pages 58-91.

さて私は今、わずかばかり無心したく、家来を遣わした次第です。 ちょうどおめでたい
日でもあり、お手もとにある物を、少しばかり恵んではいただけますまいか。」 ９ 若者たちはダビデのことばを伝え、ナバルの返事を待ちました。１０ところが、ナバルからはこんな答えが返ってきました。[ダビデだと？やつがどうした。エッサイの息子だか何だか知らんが、いったい何様のつもりでいやがるんだ。このごろは、主人のもとから逃げ出す奴隷がわんさといる。１１どこの馬の骨だかわからんやつらに、わしのパンや水や、それに刈り取りの祝いのために殺したこの肉を、どうして、くれてやらにゃならんのだ。」１２使いの者は帰って、ナバルが言ったとおり報告しました。１３するとダビデは、「みんな剣を取れ！」と命じ、自分も剣を身につけ始めました。四百人がダビデとともに出立し、あとの二百人は持ち物を守るために残りました。１４そうこうしている間のことです。ナバルの下僕の一人が、アビガイルに一部始終
を知らせたのです。「ダビデ様がだんな様に、荒野から使者を立て、あいさつしてこられましたのに、だんな様ときたら、さんざんその方々を侮辱したり、なじったりなさったんです。１５１６ダビデ様に仕える人たちは、とても私どもによくしてくれまして、こちらが迷惑したことなど一度もございませんでした。実際、あの方々が、昼も夜も、城壁のようになって、私どもと羊を守ってくださったのです。おかげで、いっしょにおりました間中、何も盗まれずにすみました。 １７さあ早く、ここは、しかとお考えください。このままでは、だんな様ばかりか、ご一家がひどい目に会うに決まっております。だんな様はあのとおり頑固なお方ですから、だれもおいさめできないのです。」１８アビガイルは大急ぎで、パン二百個、ぶどう酒の皮袋二つ、調理した羊五頭分、炒り麦六十リットル、干しぶどうの菓子百個、干しいちじくの菓子二百個を取りそろえて、ろばに積み込みました。 １９ そして、若者たちに命じました。 「さあ先にお行き。 私はあとからついて行くから。」もちろん、夫には何も告げませんでした。２０こうして、ろばで山道を下って行ったところ、ばったり、こちらに向かって来るダビデに出くわしたのです。
２１ ダビデは道々、こう思っていたところでした。 「あいつのために、どれほど尽く
してやったことか。 荒野で、わしらが羊の群れを守ってやったおかげで、一頭4w_sSも失わず、
盗まれもしなかったんじゃないか。 なのに、恩を仇で返しやがった。 あれほど苦労し
て得たものが侮辱だけだったとはな。 ２２あすの朝までに、あの家の者どもは皆殺しだ。
もし一人でも生き残りがいたら、神様にこの身をのろわれてもかまわん。」２３アビガイルはダビデを見るや、さっとろばから降り、その前に深々と頭を下げました。 ２４ 「ご主人様。 この度のことにつきましては、私がすべて非難をお受けする覚悟でございます。どうぞ、私の申し上げることを、お聞きくださいませ。 ２５ナバルは融通のきかないがさつ者でございます。 どうぞ、あの人の申しましたことなど、お気になさらないでください。名前のとおり、愚か者なのです。 ところで、私は、お使いの方々とはお会いしておりません。 ２６ご主人様。 神様はあなた様が血を流しに行くのをやめさせ、復讐を思いとどまらせてくださいましたので、神様にかけて、また、ご主人様の命にかけて、お祈りいたします。あなた様に刃向かう者はすべて、ナバルと同じように、のろわれますように！２７実は、皆様方のために、贈り物を用意してまいりました。２８厚かましくもこうしてまかり出ましたことを、どうぞお赦しくださいませ。 神様は必ず、あなた様の子々孫々にまで及ぶ永遠の王国を建てて、お報いなさることでございましょう。あなた様は、神様のために戦っておられるのですもの。ですから、一生、決して道を踏みはずしたりなさいませんわ。２９たとい、命をつけねらわれましても、まるで神様の守り袋の中にかくまわれているように、いつも安全に守られていらっしゃいます。反対に、敵の命は、石投げの石のように、飛んで消えてしまうでしょう。３０３１神様がすばらしい約束をことごとく成し遂げて、あなた様がイスラエルの王に任ぜられました時、ご自分の判断で人を殺したりしたような覚えがあってはなりませんわ。神様がこれらのすばらしいわざを成し遂げられたあかつきには、どうか、この私のことを思い出していただきとうございます。」３２「きょう、あなたを私に会わせるためによこしてくださった、イスラエルの神様に感謝しよう。３３全くりっぱな良識を備えた人だ。私を人殺しの罪から守り、自分の手で復讐しようとしていたのを思いとどまらせてくれて、ありがとう。３４あなたに害を加えるのをとどめてくださった、イスラエルの神様にかけて誓うが、もしあなたが来てくれなかったら、ナバル家の者は一人残らず、あすの朝までに息の根を止められていたことだろう。」３５ダビデはアビガイルの贈り物を受け取り、夫を殺したりしないから、安心して家へ帰るように言いました。３６アビガイルが帰宅すると、ナバルはどんちゃん騒ぎの真っ最中でした。ぐでんぐでんに酔っていたので、翌朝まで、ダビデに会ったことについては、ひと言も話しませんでした。３７３８朝になって、酔いもさめたナバルにきのうのことを話すと、彼は卒倒し、十日間というもの意識不明のまま寝込み、ついに息絶えたの
です。 神様がいのちを取り去ったからです。 1 Samuel 25:2-38
１３これを聞いた王は、烈火のように怒り、シャデラク、メシャク、アベデ・ネゴを引き立てて来るよう命じました。１４王は三人に問いただしました。「ああ、シャデラク、メシャク、アベデ・ネゴ。おまえたちが余の神々に仕えず、また、余の立てた金の像を拝まなかったというのは、ほんとうか。１５とにかく、もう一度チャンスを与えよう。奏楽が始まったら、ひれ伏して像を拝めばよし、さもなければ、直ちに火の燃える炉に投げ込むぞ。どのような神が、余の手からおまえたちを救い出せるというのか。」１６シャデラク、メシャク、アベデ・ネゴは答えました。「陛下、私たちの身にどんなことが起ころうと、ご心配には及びません。１７たとい燃えさかる炉に投げ込まれましても、陛下、私たちの神様は、私たちを陛下の手から救い出すことがおできになります。１８たといそうでなくても、陛下、ご承知ください。私たちはどんな情況におかれても、決して陛下の神々に仕えたり、金の像を拝んだりはいたしません。」１９すると、王はかんかんになり、シャデラク、メシャク、アデ・ネゴへの憤りで顔は真っ赤になりました。そして、炉をいつもの七倍も熱くするよう命じました。２０また、王の軍隊の中でいちばん頑健な兵士たちに、シャデラク、メシャク、アベデ・ネゴを縛り、火に投げ込むよう命じたのです。２１三人は衣服を着たまま縛られ、炉に投げ込まれました。２２王が激怒のあまり、炉を熱くするよう命じたので、炉は灼熱の状態でした。兵士たちが三人を投げ込んだ時、吹き上げる炎が兵士たちを焼き殺したほどです。２３シャデラク、メシャク、アベデ・ネゴは、縛られたまま、ごうごうと音を立てて燃えさかる炎の中に落ち込んで行きました。２４突然、じっと見つめていた王が驚いて立ち上がり、側近の者たちに叫びました。 「炉に投げ込んだのは三人ではなかったのか。」
「さようでございます、陛下。」２５「だが、よく見ろ。四人いるではないか。 縄を解かれて火の中を歩いているぞ。しかも、焼かれた様子は全くない。第四の人は、まるで神様のようだ。」２６それから、王は燃える炉の口にできるだけ近づいて、こう叫びました。「シャデラク、メシャク、アベデ・ネゴ。いと高き神のしもべたちよ、出て来い。すぐ出て来い！」すると、三人は出て来たではありませんか。２７君主、長官、総督、参議官たちが、駆け寄って、三人を調べました。驚いたことに、焼かれたあとは少しもありません。頭の毛も焦げず、上着も焼けず、煙の臭いさえしませんでした。２８王は、思わず感嘆の声をあげました。「シャデラク、メシャク、アベデ・ネゴの神様は、なんとすばらしい方だ！王の命令を拒み、自分たちの神様以外の神を拝むくらいなら死もいとわないほど、信仰に徹したしもべたちに、御使いを送って救い出してくださるとは。２９よいか、余の命令だ。シャデラク、メシャク、アベデ・ネゴの神様に逆らう者は、どの国、どの国語、どの宗教の者であっても、手足を切り取り、その家をごみの山とする。この三人の神様のようにできる神は、ほかにいないからだ。」３０王は、シャデラク、メシャク、アベデ・ネゴを昇進させました。それで三人は、バビロン州で大いに栄えたのです。 Daniel 3:13-30
１８話が決まったところで、もう一度二人を呼び入れ、こんりんざいイエスのことを話してはならないと、きつく申し渡しました。１９しかし、ペテロとヨハネは、きっぱり答えました。「神様にではなく、あなたがたに従うことを、神様が望んでおられるとでもお考えなのですか。２０私たちは、イエス様の行なわれたことや、お話しになったことを、知らせないわけにはいきません。」２１議員たちは、なおもしつこく脅しましたが、効き目はありません。かといって、二人を罰しようものなら、暴動が起こりかねないと考え、ついにあきらめ、釈放しました。 人々がみな、すばらしい奇蹟を見て、神をほめたたえていたからです。 ２２なにしろ、四十年も立てなかった人が、完全に治ったのですから、むりもありません。
２３晴れて自由の身になると、ペテロとヨハネは、すぐほかの弟子たちのところへ帰り、議員たちの言ったことを残らず伝えました。 祈りと賛美にあふれる教会
Acts 4:18-23
１ところが、中にはこんな事件もありました。アナニヤという人が、妻サッピラといっしょに財産を売り払いました。２しかしアナニヤは、代金の一部を手もとに残しておきながら、すまして、「これで全額です」と言って、使徒たちに差し出したのです。妻サッピラと示し合わせた上のことでした。３しかし、ペテロはそれを見抜いて、彼を責めました。「アナニヤよ。悪魔に心を奪われたのかっ！これで全額ですと言った時、おまえは、ほかのだれでもない、聖霊様ご自身にうそをついたのだ。４おまえの財産は、売ろうと売るまいと、おまえのものであることに変わりはない。たとい売ったとしても、その代金をどれぐらい人に施すかも全く自由だ。なのに、どうしてこんなことをしたっ！わかっているのか。おまえは私たちにじゃなく、神様にうそをついたのだぞ。」５このことばを聞くと、アナニヤはばたりと床に倒れ、あっという間に死んでしまったのです。これを見た人々は、恐ろしさのあまり、ちぢみ上がりました。６やがて青年たちが、死体を布でおおい、外に運び出して葬りました。７それから三時間ほどあとでしょうか。アナニヤの妻が、何事も知らずにやって来ました。 ８ペテロは尋ねました。「あなたがたが売った土地の代金は、これで全額ですか。」
「はい、そうです。」９「よくまあ、夫婦そろって大それたことを考えたものだ。聖霊様をだまそうとはな。見ろ。おまえの夫を葬った青年たちが、門のすぐそばまで来ている。おまえも運び出してもらうがいい。」１０ペテロが言い終わるか終わらないかのうちに、サッピラは床に倒れ、息が絶えました。ちょうどそこへ、青年たちが入って来ました。確かに死んでいるのを見届けると、その足で運び出し、夫のそばに葬りました。１１教会全体と、この出来事を聞いたすべての人が、言い知れない恐怖にとらわれたことは、言うまでもありません。

Sarah learned to trust God: セーラは神を信じるようになりました。

7. Are their times when women should not submit to their husbands? The Bible says “yes”:

うだな。なぜわしの命令に背いたっ！」１９「陛下はご存じないでしょうが、ヘブルの女はとても丈夫で、簡単に赤ん坊を産んでしまうのです。私たちが駆けつけた時には、もう生まれてしまっているのでございます。エジプトの女と違って出産に手間取らないものですから。」２０神様は助産婦たちによくされたので、イスラエル人はさらに増え続け、強大な国民になりました。２１神様を恐れ敬う助産婦たちも、子供に恵まれました。２２そこで、王は全国民に、「以後、ヘブル人の赤ん坊は、女の子だけを残して、男の子はみなナイル川に投げ込め」と命じたのです。１２そのころ、あるヘブル人の若い男女が結婚しました。 二人ともレビ部族の出身でした。やがて、二人の間に男の子が生まれました。玉のようにかわいらしい赤ん坊です。どうして、川へなど投げ込めましょう。母親は三か月のあいだ家に隠しておきました。３もうそれ以上は隠しきれません。彼女はパピルス製のかごにタールを塗って防水し、赤ん坊を入れると、ナイル川のほとりの葦のしげみに、そっと置きました。 ４その子の姉が遠くから、弟がどうなるのか見守っていました。

２ところで、カルメル村の近くにマオン出身の裕福な人がいて、大きな牧場を持っていました。 羊三千頭、山羊千頭がいましたが、ちょうどそのころ、羊の毛の刈り取りが行なわれていたのです。３牧場主の名はナバルといい、妻はアビガイルという名で才色兼備の誉れ高い婦人でした。ところが、夫のほうは、カレブの子孫なのですが、けちで頑固で、行状もよくないときています。 ４ さて、ナバルが羊毛の刈り取りの最中だと聞いたダビデは、 ５若者を十人カルメル
にやり、こう言わせました。 ６「神様の祝福があなたとご一家に注がれ、ますます富を
増し加えてくださいますように。７あなたが羊と山羊の毛を刈っておられる、とうかがい
ました。 以前お宅の羊飼いたちとともに居合わせたことがありますが、私どもは害を加
えたりしたことはありません。 また、カルメル滞在中も、盗みを働いた覚えはありませ
ん。 ８お宅の若い衆にお聞きください。 それが本当かうそか、話してくれましょう。
さて私は今、わずかばかり無心したく、家来を遣わした次第です。 ちょうどおめでたい
日でもあり、お手もとにある物を、少しばかり恵んではいただけますまいか。」 ９ 若者たちはダビデのことばを伝え、ナバルの返事を待ちました。１０ところが、ナバルからはこんな答えが返ってきました。[ダビデだと？やつがどうした。エッサイの息子だか何だか知らんが、いったい何様のつもりでいやがるんだ。このごろは、主人のもとから逃げ出す奴隷がわんさといる。１１どこの馬の骨だかわからんやつらに、わしのパンや水や、それに刈り取りの祝いのために殺したこの肉を、どうして、くれてやらにゃならんのだ。」１２使いの者は帰って、ナバルが言ったとおり報告しました。１３するとダビデは、「みんな剣を取れ！」と命じ、自分も剣を身につけ始めました。四百人がダビデとともに出立し、あとの二百人は持ち物を守るために残りました。１４そうこうしている間のことです。ナバルの下僕の一人が、アビガイルに一部始終
を知らせたのです。「ダビデ様がだんな様に、荒野から使者を立て、あいさつしてこられましたのに、だんな様ときたら、さんざんその方々を侮辱したり、なじったりなさったんです。１５１６ダビデ様に仕える人たちは、とても私どもによくしてくれまして、こちらが迷惑したことなど一度もございませんでした。実際、あの方々が、昼も夜も、城壁のようになって、私どもと羊を守ってくださったのです。おかげで、いっしょにおりました間中、何も盗まれずにすみました。 １７さあ早く、ここは、しかとお考えください。このままでは、だんな様ばかりか、ご一家がひどい目に会うに決まっております。だんな様はあのとおり頑固なお方ですから、だれもおいさめできないのです。」１８アビガイルは大急ぎで、パン二百個、ぶどう酒の皮袋二つ、調理した羊五頭分、炒り麦六十リットル、干しぶどうの菓子百個、干しいちじくの菓子二百個を取りそろえて、ろばに積み込みました。 １９ そして、若者たちに命じました。 「さあ先にお行き。 私はあとからついて行くから。」もちろん、夫には何も告げませんでした。２０こうして、ろばで山道を下って行ったところ、ばったり、こちらに向かって来るダビデに出くわしたのです。
２１ ダビデは道々、こう思っていたところでした。 「あいつのために、どれほど尽く
してやったことか。 荒野で、わしらが羊の群れを守ってやったおかげで、一頭4w_sSも失わず、
盗まれもしなかったんじゃないか。 なのに、恩を仇で返しやがった。 あれほど苦労し
て得たものが侮辱だけだったとはな。 ２２あすの朝までに、あの家の者どもは皆殺しだ。
もし一人でも生き残りがいたら、神様にこの身をのろわれてもかまわん。」２３アビガイルはダビデを見るや、さっとろばから降り、その前に深々と頭を下げました。 ２４ 「ご主人様。 この度のことにつきましては、私がすべて非難をお受けする覚悟でございます。どうぞ、私の申し上げることを、お聞きくださいませ。 ２５ナバルは融通のきかないがさつ者でございます。 どうぞ、あの人の申しましたことなど、お気になさらないでください。名前のとおり、愚か者なのです。 ところで、私は、お使いの方々とはお会いしておりません。 ２６ご主人様。 神様はあなた様が血を流しに行くのをやめさせ、復讐を思いとどまらせてくださいましたので、神様にかけて、また、ご主人様の命にかけて、お祈りいたします。あなた様に刃向かう者はすべて、ナバルと同じように、のろわれますように！２７実は、皆様方のために、贈り物を用意してまいりました。２８厚かましくもこうしてまかり出ましたことを、どうぞお赦しくださいませ。 神様は必ず、あなた様の子々孫々にまで及ぶ永遠の王国を建てて、お報いなさることでございましょう。あなた様は、神様のために戦っておられるのですもの。ですから、一生、決して道を踏みはずしたりなさいませんわ。２９たとい、命をつけねらわれましても、まるで神様の守り袋の中にかくまわれているように、いつも安全に守られていらっしゃいます。反対に、敵の命は、石投げの石のように、飛んで消えてしまうでしょう。３０３１神様がすばらしい約束をことごとく成し遂げて、あなた様がイスラエルの王に任ぜられました時、ご自分の判断で人を殺したりしたような覚えがあってはなりませんわ。神様がこれらのすばらしいわざを成し遂げられたあかつきには、どうか、この私のことを思い出していただきとうございます。」３２「きょう、あなたを私に会わせるためによこしてくださった、イスラエルの神様に感謝しよう。３３全くりっぱな良識を備えた人だ。私を人殺しの罪から守り、自分の手で復讐しようとしていたのを思いとどまらせてくれて、ありがとう。３４あなたに害を加えるのをとどめてくださった、イスラエルの神様にかけて誓うが、もしあなたが来てくれなかったら、ナバル家の者は一人残らず、あすの朝までに息の根を止められていたことだろう。」３５ダビデはアビガイルの贈り物を受け取り、夫を殺したりしないから、安心して家へ帰るように言いました。３６アビガイルが帰宅すると、ナバルはどんちゃん騒ぎの真っ最中でした。ぐでんぐでんに酔っていたので、翌朝まで、ダビデに会ったことについては、ひと言も話しませんでした。３７３８朝になって、酔いもさめたナバルにきのうのことを話すと、彼は卒倒し、十日間というもの意識不明のまま寝込み、ついに息絶えたの
です。 神様がいのちを取り去ったからです。 1 Samuel 25:2-38
１３これを聞いた王は、烈火のように怒り、シャデラク、メシャク、アベデ・ネゴを引き立てて来るよう命じました。１４王は三人に問いただしました。「ああ、シャデラク、メシャク、アベデ・ネゴ。おまえたちが余の神々に仕えず、また、余の立てた金の像を拝まなかったというのは、ほんとうか。１５とにかく、もう一度チャンスを与えよう。奏楽が始まったら、ひれ伏して像を拝めばよし、さもなければ、直ちに火の燃える炉に投げ込むぞ。どのような神が、余の手からおまえたちを救い出せるというのか。」１６シャデラク、メシャク、アベデ・ネゴは答えました。「陛下、私たちの身にどんなことが起ころうと、ご心配には及びません。１７たとい燃えさかる炉に投げ込まれましても、陛下、私たちの神様は、私たちを陛下の手から救い出すことがおできになります。１８たといそうでなくても、陛下、ご承知ください。私たちはどんな情況におかれても、決して陛下の神々に仕えたり、金の像を拝んだりはいたしません。」１９すると、王はかんかんになり、シャデラク、メシャク、アデ・ネゴへの憤りで顔は真っ赤になりました。そして、炉をいつもの七倍も熱くするよう命じました。２０また、王の軍隊の中でいちばん頑健な兵士たちに、シャデラク、メシャク、アベデ・ネゴを縛り、火に投げ込むよう命じたのです。２１三人は衣服を着たまま縛られ、炉に投げ込まれました。２２王が激怒のあまり、炉を熱くするよう命じたので、炉は灼熱の状態でした。兵士たちが三人を投げ込んだ時、吹き上げる炎が兵士たちを焼き殺したほどです。２３シャデラク、メシャク、アベデ・ネゴは、縛られたまま、ごうごうと音を立てて燃えさかる炎の中に落ち込んで行きました。２４突然、じっと見つめていた王が驚いて立ち上がり、側近の者たちに叫びました。 「炉に投げ込んだのは三人ではなかったのか。」
「さようでございます、陛下。」２５「だが、よく見ろ。四人いるではないか。 縄を解かれて火の中を歩いているぞ。しかも、焼かれた様子は全くない。第四の人は、まるで神様のようだ。」２６それから、王は燃える炉の口にできるだけ近づいて、こう叫びました。「シャデラク、メシャク、アベデ・ネゴ。いと高き神のしもべたちよ、出て来い。すぐ出て来い！」すると、三人は出て来たではありませんか。２７君主、長官、総督、参議官たちが、駆け寄って、三人を調べました。驚いたことに、焼かれたあとは少しもありません。頭の毛も焦げず、上着も焼けず、煙の臭いさえしませんでした。２８王は、思わず感嘆の声をあげました。「シャデラク、メシャク、アベデ・ネゴの神様は、なんとすばらしい方だ！王の命令を拒み、自分たちの神様以外の神を拝むくらいなら死もいとわないほど、信仰に徹したしもべたちに、御使いを送って救い出してくださるとは。２９よいか、余の命令だ。シャデラク、メシャク、アベデ・ネゴの神様に逆らう者は、どの国、どの国語、どの宗教の者であっても、手足を切り取り、その家をごみの山とする。この三人の神様のようにできる神は、ほかにいないからだ。」３０王は、シャデラク、メシャク、アベデ・ネゴを昇進させました。それで三人は、バビロン州で大いに栄えたのです。 Daniel 3:13-30
１８話が決まったところで、もう一度二人を呼び入れ、こんりんざいイエスのことを話してはならないと、きつく申し渡しました。１９しかし、ペテロとヨハネは、きっぱり答えました。「神様にではなく、あなたがたに従うことを、神様が望んでおられるとでもお考えなのですか。２０私たちは、イエス様の行なわれたことや、お話しになったことを、知らせないわけにはいきません。」２１議員たちは、なおもしつこく脅しましたが、効き目はありません。かといって、二人を罰しようものなら、暴動が起こりかねないと考え、ついにあきらめ、釈放しました。 人々がみな、すばらしい奇蹟を見て、神をほめたたえていたからです。 ２２なにしろ、四十年も立てなかった人が、完全に治ったのですから、むりもありません。
２３晴れて自由の身になると、ペテロとヨハネは、すぐほかの弟子たちのところへ帰り、議員たちの言ったことを残らず伝えました。 祈りと賛美にあふれる教会
Acts 4:18-23
１ところが、中にはこんな事件もありました。アナニヤという人が、妻サッピラといっしょに財産を売り払いました。２しかしアナニヤは、代金の一部を手もとに残しておきながら、すまして、「これで全額です」と言って、使徒たちに差し出したのです。妻サッピラと示し合わせた上のことでした。３しかし、ペテロはそれを見抜いて、彼を責めました。「アナニヤよ。悪魔に心を奪われたのかっ！これで全額ですと言った時、おまえは、ほかのだれでもない、聖霊様ご自身にうそをついたのだ。４おまえの財産は、売ろうと売るまいと、おまえのものであることに変わりはない。たとい売ったとしても、その代金をどれぐらい人に施すかも全く自由だ。なのに、どうしてこんなことをしたっ！わかっているのか。おまえは私たちにじゃなく、神様にうそをついたのだぞ。」５このことばを聞くと、アナニヤはばたりと床に倒れ、あっという間に死んでしまったのです。これを見た人々は、恐ろしさのあまり、ちぢみ上がりました。６やがて青年たちが、死体を布でおおい、外に運び出して葬りました。７それから三時間ほどあとでしょうか。アナニヤの妻が、何事も知らずにやって来ました。 ８ペテロは尋ねました。「あなたがたが売った土地の代金は、これで全額ですか。」
「はい、そうです。」９「よくまあ、夫婦そろって大それたことを考えたものだ。聖霊様をだまそうとはな。見ろ。おまえの夫を葬った青年たちが、門のすぐそばまで来ている。おまえも運び出してもらうがいい。」１０ペテロが言い終わるか終わらないかのうちに、サッピラは床に倒れ、息が絶えました。ちょうどそこへ、青年たちが入って来ました。確かに死んでいるのを見届けると、その足で運び出し、夫のそばに葬りました。１１教会全体と、この出来事を聞いたすべての人が、言い知れない恐怖にとらわれたことは、言うまでもありません。
Acts 5:1-11

１０ちょうどそのころ、この地方一帯がひどいききんに見舞われたのです。何とかしなければなりません。ひとまずエジプトへ行き、難を逃れることにしました。１１‐１３エジプトの国境に近づくと、彼は妻のサライに、人には私の妹だと言ってくれ、と頼みました。「おまえはきれいだからな、エジプト人はきっと目をつけるだろう。『たいした女だが、亭主がじゃまだ。やつを殺して女を奪おう』と考えるかもしれない。だがな、妹ということにしておけば、おまえのことで私を大事にしてくれるだろう。それで、無事に生きのびることができるじゃないか。」 Genesis 12:10-13

９ところが、エジプト人の女ハガルが産んだイシュマエルが、弟イサクをからかい半分にいじめたのです。それを目ざとく見つけたサラは、１０アブラハムにせがみました。「ねえ、あなた、あの女奴隷と子供を追い払ってくださいな。跡継ぎはイサクに決まってるし、あの子に財産の分け前をやるなんて、私は絶対いやですわ。」１１アブラハムは困り果てました。なんと言っても、イシュマエルだって自分の子供なのです。１２しかし神様は、アブラハムを力づけました。「あの子と女奴隷のことは、あまり心配してはいけない。サラの言うとおりにしなさい。わたしの約束はまちがいなくイサクによって成就するのだ。１３だが、ハガルの子もおまえの息子だ。 必ずその子孫の国を大きくしてやろう。」

Sarah learned to trust God: セーラは神を信じるようになりました。
１５神様はさらに続けました。「おまえの妻サライだが、これからは『サライ』ではなく、『サラ』〔「王女」の意〕にしなさい。１６わたしは彼女を祝福する。彼女はおまえの息子を産むだろう。すばらしい祝福を与えて、彼女を国々の母とする。おまえの子孫からは大ぜいの王が出ることだろう。」１７これを聞いたアブラハムは、地にひれ伏して神様を礼拝しました。しかし、とても信じられないことなので、心の中では笑っていました。「この私が父親になるんだって？百歳の老いぼれが？それにサラだってもう九十だ。赤ん坊なんかできるはずがない。」 Genesis 17:15-17
９「ところで、奥さんはどちらに？」と三人が尋ねるので、「テントの中です」と答えました。１０三人のうちの一人、神様が言いました。「来年の今ごろわたしがまた来る時、おまえとサラの間に、男の子が生まれているだろう。」サラはうしろのテントの入口で一部始終を聞いていました。１１この時にはアブラハムもサラもすっかり年をとり、サラは、子供ができる時期はとうの昔に過ぎていたのです。１２あまりばかばかしくて、サラは笑いをかみ殺すのがやっとでした。「私みたいなおばあさんが、赤ん坊を産むだなんて」と、彼女は自分をあざけるようにつぶやきました。 「それにあの人だってもう年だし……。」 １３ 神様はそれを聞きとがめ、アブラハムに言いました。「なぜサラは笑ったのか。なぜ『私みたいなおばあさんは赤ん坊なんか産めない』などとつぶやくのか。１４神にできない事は何もない。おまえに言ったとおり、来年の今ごろまた来る時には、必ずサラに子供が生まれるようにしよう。」 Genesis 18:9-14
