Christmas Symbols

Christmas is 1 of the 2 most important holidays for Christians.  (Easter is the other one.)  Christians remember the birth of Jesus Christ, the Savior, on Christmas.

クリスマスはクリスチャンにとって、大切な二つの祭日の内の一つです。（もう一つは復活祭）クリスチャンはクリスマスにイエス・キリスト、救い主の誕生を覚えます。

All over the world, many people celebrate Christmas by giving gifts to family and friends.  There isn’t anything wrong with this custom, but most people forget that “Jesus is the reason for the season”. 

世界中で、多くの人々は家族や友達にプレゼントを渡すことでクリスマスをお祝いしています。この習慣は別に間違った事ではありませんが、大抵の人々は「イエスがこの時期の（お祝いする）理由」である事を忘れてしまっています。

We will look at Christmas symbols and their meanings.

クリスマスのシンボルとその意味を見てみましょう。

1.  Christmas trees and wreaths—These are made out of evergreen trees and branches.  Evergreen trees are different from other trees.  They stay green all year long.  They symbolize the gift of eternal life that is received when a person accepts Jesus Christ’s gift of salvation.

クリスマスツリーとリース－これらは常緑樹の木と枝から作られています。常緑樹は他の木々とは違い、一年中緑のままです。これは、人がイエス・キリストの救いの贈り物を受け入れた時に受け取る永遠の命の贈り物を象徴しています。4

まことに、まことに、あなたがたに告げます。信じる者は永遠のいのちを持ちます。

2.  Christmas lights—These are a reminder that Jesus is the light of the world.

クリスマスのライト－これはイエスが世界の光であることの象徴です。

１２そのあとで、イエスは人々にお話しになりました。「わたしは世の光です。わたしに従って来れば、暗やみでつまずくことはありません。いのちの光が、あなたがたの進む道をあかあかと照らすからです。」 John 8:12

3.  Christmas stars—These are a reminder of the star that led the Magi, or wise men, to Jesus.

クリスマスの星－これは、東方の3人の博士達をイエスの元へと導いた星の象徴です。

１イエスはヘロデ王の時代に、ユダヤのベツレヘムの町でお生まれになりました。そのころ、天文学者たちが、東の国からはるばるエルサレムへやって来て、こう尋ねました。２「このたびお生まれになったユダヤ人の王様は、どこにおられますか。私たちは、その方の星をはるか東の国で見たので、その方を拝むために参ったのです。」

Matthew 2:1-2

4.  Angels—These remind us that angels told Mary, Joseph, and the shepherds that Jesus is the Savior of the world.

天使－これは、天使がマリアとヨセフ、羊飼い達にイエスが世界の救い主である、と告げたことを思い起こさせます。

２０ヨセフがこのことで悩んでいた時、御使いが夢に現われて言いました。「ダビデの子孫ヨセフよ。ためらわないで、マリヤと結婚しなさい。マリヤは聖霊様によってみごもったのです。２１彼女は男の子を産みます。その子をイエス（救い主）と名づけなさい。この方こそ、ご自分を信じる人々を、罪から救ってくださるからです。 Matthew 1:20-21

5.  Gifts—Jesus is God’s gift to mankind.  God sent His Son, Jesus, to pay for the sins of every person.

贈り物－イエスが、神が人間に与えた贈り物です。神はその息子イエスを全ての人の罪の購いの為に送られました。

１５神様のひとり息子という、言い表わせないほどすばらしい神様の贈り物を感謝します。      2 Corinthians 9:15

Also, the wise men brought gifts to Jesus.

そしてまた、東方の三博士たちもイエスに贈り物を持ってきました。

 “They went into the house, and when they saw the child with His mother Mary, they knelt down and worshiped Him.  They brought out their gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh, and presented them to Him.”         Matthew 2:11

そしてその家に入って、母マリヤとともにおられる幼子を見、ひれ伏して拝んだ。そして、宝の箱をあけて、黄金、乳香、没薬を贈り物としてささげた。　マタイ  Matthew 2:11

6.  Christmas colors:

Red—a symbol of God’s love for us.

赤－神の私たちに対する愛の象徴

１６実に神は、ひとり子をさえ惜しまず与えるほどに、世を愛してくださいました。それは、神の御子を信じる者が、だれ一人滅びず、永遠のいのちを得るためです。          John 3:16

Green—a symbol of life

緑－命の象徴

１０強盗は、盗んだり、殺したり、滅ぼしたりするために来ます。しかしわたしが来たのは、いのちを、あふれるほど豊かに与えるためです。     John 10:10

Gold—a symbol of things that are precious and valuable

金－大切な価値のある物の象徴

９しかし、それだからこそ、神様はキリスト様を高く天に引き上げ、最高の名をお与えになりました。 Philippians 2:9

White—a symbol of the purity and holiness of Jesus

白―イエスの純潔、清さの象徴

２２キリスト様は一度も、罪を犯したり、うそをついたりなさいませんでした。

Bible Verses About Men

1. ２３なぜなら、キリスト様の体である教会がキリスト様にゆだねられているのと同じように、妻は夫にゆだねられているからです。〔キリスト様は教会のために心を配り、その救い主となるために、実にいのちさえも投げ出されたのです。〕 Ephesians 5:23

This means that men should be the leaders of their family.  This doesn’t mean that men are superior to women.  God wants us to have order in our relationships. 

これは男性が家庭のリーダーとなるべきだ、という意味です。これは男性が女性より優れている、という意味ではありません。神は私たちの関係において、秩序を求めておられます。

３３神様は、無秩序や混乱を喜ばれません。調和を愛する神様ですから、どの教会にも、この調和があるのです。1 Corinthians 14:33

2. ２５また、夫は、教会のためにいのちを捨てるほどの愛を示されたキリスト様にならって、妻を愛しなさい。 Ephesians 5:25

This means a man should love his wife enough to die for her.

これは男性が妻の事を命を捨てるほどに愛すべきだ、という意味です。

3. ２８これこそ、夫が妻に対してとるべき態度です。つまり、夫は妻を、自分の体の一部のように愛さなければなりません。二人は一体なのですから、夫が妻を愛する時、実は自分自身を愛しているのです。 Ephesians 5:28

This means a man should put his wife’s needs equal to or ahead of his own needs.

これは、男性が妻の必要を自分のと同様に、または自分の必要より先に考えるべきだ、という意味です。

4.  １９夫は妻を愛し、いたわりなさい。つらく当たったり、邪険な態度をとったりしてはいけません。Colossians 3:19

This means men should treat their wives well.  (They shouldn’t be mean to them.)

これは、男性が女性の事を優しく扱うべきだ、という意味です。（意地悪になってはいけません。）

 5.  “In the same way, you husbands must live with your wives with the proper understanding that they are more delicate than you.  Treat them with respect because they also will receive, together with you, God’s gift of life.  Do this so that nothing will hinder your prayers.”    1 Peter 3:7

同じように、夫たちよ。妻が女性であって、自分よりも弱い器だということをわきまえて妻とともに生活し、いのちの恵みをともに受け継ぐ者として尊敬しなさい。それは、あなたがたの祈りが妨げられないためです。

delicate partner—like expensive china that needs special care.

弱い配偶者―特別な扱いが必要な高価な磁器のように

receive God’s gift of life—this verse is for Christian men and women.  It means they will both go to heaven when they die.

神のいのちの恵みを受け継ぐ―この箇所はクリスチャンの男性と女性に向けて書かれたものです。これは、二人が死んだ時、共に天国へ行くという意味です。

“so that nothing will hinder your prayers”—God is always interested in our heart and our attitude.  If a man is not good to his wife, he probably has a bad heart or a bad attitude.  The Bible says we need to have a good heart and a good attitude to pray effectively.

あなたがたの祈りが妨げられないためです。―神はいつも私たちの心と態度を気にかけられています。もし男性が妻に対して良い夫でなければ、きっと悪い心や態度を持っている事でしょう。聖書には、私たちは効果的に祈る為に良い心と態度をもつ必要があると書いてあります。 

 6.  The Bible says men should be faithful, self-controlled, respectable, gentle, hospitable, able to teach, and able to manage their families well.

聖書には、男性は忠実で、自制心があり、立派で、優しく、もてなす心があり、教える事ができ、家族の世話をよくしている人であるべきだ、と書いてあります。

The Bible says men should not be alcoholics, violent, quarrelsome, greedy. 

聖書には、男性はアルコール中毒、暴力的、短気、貪欲であってはいけない、と書いてあります。

2牧師になる人は、たれからもうしろ指をさされたりしない人でなければなりません。 ちゃんとした結婚をしており、勤勉で思慮深く、折り目正しい生活をして、 善行に励む人であるべきです。 また、客をよくもてなし、有能な聖書の教師でなければなりません。 3酒飲みても、けんか好きてもなく、やさしく親切で、金銭にこだわらす、 4子供たちのしつけも行き届いた、良い家庭の主人でなければなりません。 1 Timothy 3:2-4

7.  The righteous man leads a blameless life; blessed are his children after him.

（ 正しい人が潔白な生活をするときに、彼の子孫はなんと幸いなことだろう。）

７子供にとっていちばんの遺産は、正直に生きることを教わることです。Proverbs 20:7

8.  The father of a righteous man has great joy; he who has a wise son delights in him.  Proverbs 23:24

正しい者の父は大いに楽しみ、知恵のある子を生んだ者はその子を喜ぶ。

9.  Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong.

１３目を覚まして、霊的な危険に身構えていなさい。いつも、主に忠実でありなさい。男らしく行動し、強くありなさい。1 Corinthians 16:13

10.  Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will be discouraged.（ 父たちよ。子どもをおこらせてはいけません。彼らを気落ちさせないためです。）

1. A kindhearted woman gains respect

2.  The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.

１知恵のある女は自分の家を建て、ばかな女は懸命にこわします。

3.  Houses and wealth are inherited from parents, but a prudent wife is from the Lord.

１４父親が残せるのは家と財産、神様の贈り物はりこうな妻です。

4.  Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord.

２２妻は、主に従うのと同様に、夫に従いなさい。Ephesians 5:22

5.  The woman is the glory of man.

女性は男性の栄光の現れです。

７しかし、男は何もかぶるべきではありません〔礼拝の時の女の帽子は、男への服従のしるしだからです〕。男は神様に似せて造られたのであり、神様の栄光の現われです。女は男の栄光の現われです。８最初の男は女から造られたのではなく、1 Corinthians 11:7

6.  Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives.  1 Peter 3:1

同じように、妻たちよ。自分の夫に服従しなさい。たとい、みことばに従わない夫であっても、妻の無言のふるまいによって、神のものとされるようになるためです。

7.  Teach older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanders or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good.  Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.

3老婦人には、何事にも静かて、ていねいな物腰を忘れないように教えなさい。 陰口をたたいたり、大酒を飲んだりせず、人生経験を積んだ婦人にふさわしく、良いお手本となるべきです。 45そうすれば、若い女性に、落ち着いた生活を送り、夫と子供とを愛し、 考え深く、きよらかな心で、家事に精を出し、夫にやさしく従順でいるようにさとせるのてす。 そうなれは、クリスチャンの信仰か、身近な人たちから、けなされることもないでしょう。Titus 2:3-5

                            

Bible Verses About Children

1. Teach God’s words to your children.  Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

１９子供たちにも教えなさい。家に座っている時も、外を歩いている時も、寝る時も、朝食の前にも話して聞かせなさい。Deuteronomy 11:19

2.  My son, keep your father’s commands and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.

20 親の言いつけを守りなさい。Proverbs 6:20

3.  Even a child is known by his actions, by whether his conduct is pure and right.

１１小さな子供でも、行ないが正しいかどうかを見れば性格がわかります。Proverbs 20:11

4.  Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

8.  Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

9.  Children, obey your parents, in the Lord, for this right.

１子供は両親に従いなさい。神様は、親が子供を監督する権威を認めておられるのです。従うのは正しいことです。 Ephesians 6:1

10.  Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.

２０子供は常に両親に従いなさい。それは、主に喜ばれることだからです。
